Revenue Shortfall Forces Two More Layoffs For City Of Normandy Park

The city is reporting that 2011 Third Quarter revenues continue to fall short of operating budget needs, and that it’s now facing a deficit of $300,000 in 2012 – resulting in the elimination of two positions at the end of this year.

The projected deficit will also result in the cutting of a third position on June 30, 2012.

“Although four new businesses have signed leases at Normandy Park Towne Center and Horizon Pets is moving from Burien to Manhattan Village Shopping Center, revenue projections for 2012 do not suggest any measurable improvement,” the city said in its November City Manager’s Report.

During the past two years, revenue declines have resulted in three employee layoffs and six vacant positions left unfilled, including one police officer position.

In 2008, the City had 37 full-time equivalent positions. As of January 1, 2012, the City will only have 25 positions filled.
