City of Normandy Park selects Daniel W. Yourkoski as new Chief of Police


The City of Normandy Park announced Tuesday (June 21) that it has made a conditional offer of employment to Captain Daniel W. Yourkoski of the Medina Police Department to become its next Chief of Police.

A Medina police supervisor, from 2000 to the present time, Captain Yourkoski currently oversees planning and staffing for all police operations of the City of Medina, including preparation of the annual department budget of $2 million.

In his current position, Captain Yourkoski is involved in the hiring, discipline and administration of all department members, and assumes the responsibilities of the Chief of Police in the Chief’s absence. He is the liaison with other agencies, including the Secret Service. He has been a member of CSPA Major Crimes Task Force since its inception.

He is a five time Medina Police Department employee of the year; served as Interim Chief of Police on two separate occasions for a year each time; and oversaw five Presidential visits, as well as the visits of numerous other dignitaries.

He held the rank of Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Reserves and served from 1994-2005. Captain Yourkoski received a BA in Business Administration in the area of Accounting from the University of Washington in 1997. More recently, in 2014, he earned an MBA with an emphasis in leadership, also from the University of Washington.

Captain Yourkoski accepted this conditional offer on Friday, June 17, 2016. Subsequent to satisfactory testing and background confirmation, Captain Yourkoski will begin employment with the City of Normandy Park as its Chief of Police on August 1.
