Volunteers are needed to get outside and join neighbors to beautify Walker Creek and the Normandy Park Swim Club this coming Sunday, April 30.
Join your Miller-Walker Basin Steward and members of the Normandy Park/Miller-Walker community for the Normandy Park Swim Club’s annual work party to beautify the pool area and nearby creek to prepare for the summer swim season.
Kids love playing around the stream, but it is being overgrown with invasive plants.
Come help clear invasive weeds to preserve the creek, native forest, and the fish and wildlife that call this place home.
No experience is necessary, all are welcome (children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult). Please sign up!
WHEN: Sunday, April 30, 2015: 9:00 am-3:00 pm
WHERE: Normandy Park Swim Club, 17655 12th Ave SW, Normandy Park (map below).
WHAT: Stream restoration work will include removing invasive weeds by hand pulling, digging, or cutting. Other tasks include cleaning, gardening, minor maintenance, painting, washing windows, etc.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Dress in layers and wear work clothes that can get dirty. Bring rain gear in case of rain.
- Bring gloves and tools (some will be available), and a filled water bottle.
- We provide some gloves, tools,and training.
- Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Unaccompanied children 16-18 must be able to work with minimum supervision.
