City Manager’s Weekly Report
for Week ending June 9, 2018

Birding programs. Recently, the Parks Department finished up five free birding basics classes and began the owl prowl outings that will continue through September. The first Owl Prowl participants were able to see three Barred owls calling each other in Walker Preserve. Parks still has availability for the August and September Owl Prowls. If interested, then please give Amanda León a call at 206.248.8257 to sign up.

RCO funding for Marine View Park improvements. Parks has applied for RCO funding for ADA accessibility and park upgrades to Marine View Park, a process that will continue into the fall. The project includes paving and redesigning the parking lot, creating a gathering and welcoming area, upgrading the flat pathways for ADA access, and improving the picnic area. The process will open the park parking area to enhanced supervision and visibility.

Summer Youth Activities. Summer soccer, football, baseball, fitness camp, kids camp and preschool camp are ramping up for the summer season. If you have questions about the programs, please call Amanda Leon for details.

City Shop spill into Arrow Lake. A spill of hydraulic fluid from a broken slope mower under repair at the City Shop leaked through the storm system late Thursday, in part all the way to Arrow Lake. The city staff contacted Department of Ecology(DOE), and both DOE and the city deployed absorbent boom in Arrow Lake, as well as cleanup throughout the storm line to resolve the spill. An on-going cleanup will be deployed until no residual debris remains in the storm line and no residual debris has any possibility of entering Arrow Lake.
