A child who was found unresponsive at the bottom of the swimming pool at the Olympic View Swim Club in Normandy Park on Friday, June 20, 2025, is expected to make a full recovery thanks to the swift actions of lifeguards, according to emergency responders.
King County Fire District 2, Medic One, and other nearby agencies responded to the drowning call shortly after it was reported at the pool at around 3:22 p.m. Friday afternoon.
Lifeguards on duty discovered the child underwater and not moving, then pulled the child from the pool and began CPR.
“They pulled the child from the pool and found them without a pulse,” Ray Desmarais, Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal for King County Fire District #2 told South King Media. “CPR was initiated by the lifeguards and the child regained consciousness and coughed up water after approximately :30-seconds, per the lifeguards.”
On EMS arrival, the child was found alert and oriented and as a precaution was sent to an area hospital for further evaluation. Medic 13 handled the transport.
“The fire district commends the heroic efforts by lifeguard staff to ensure that child gets to go home and enjoy a full life,” Desmarais added.
Officials said the quick response and training of pool staff likely saved the child’s life.
