Normandy Park City Manager’s Report for week ending Sept. 20, 2025
Stay Connected to Normandy Park Happenings
Staying connected with our residents is essential! The City Council and staff want to hear your ideas—both about current activities and about what’s needed to keep Normandy Park a fabulous place to call home.
So, how can you stay involved and make your voice heard? Here are some options:
Attend a City Council Meeting
The City Council meets twice a month. Regular meetings, where official decisions are made, are held on the second Tuesday of each month. These meetings provide an excellent opportunity for residents to learn more about the City and address the City Council. How can you address the City Council? All regular meetings begin and end with a public comment period, where residents have up to three minutes to speak on any topic. Study Sessions take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month. These meetings provide a more relaxed setting for the Council and staff to discuss upcoming issues without making formal decisions. Public comments are not accepted at these meetings, but residents are encouraged to attend to hear the discussion.
Residents are always welcome at both meetings, either in person at City Hall or online via Zoom.
Join a Town Hall Meeting
Quarterly Town Halls are designed for open, two-way conversations with the community. Each meeting begins with a featured topic, followed by an opportunity to have a conversation with City Council members.
The next Town Hall will take place on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The discussion will begin with the City’s newly approved ordinance, which expands regulations for youth riding motorized scooters and electric bicycles.
More about this topic. Under State law, anyone under 16 cannot ride these vehicles on City streets or sidewalks unless local rules allow it. To improve safety, the City Council adopted its own ordinance, which includes the following requirements:
- Helmets must be worn by riders under 16.
- Lights are required when riding after dark.
- One rider per vehicle—no doubling up.
- Adult supervision is required for riders under 12.
- Riders must follow the rules of the road.
- When riding in the street, stay to the far right in the correct lane of travel.
- Yield to pedestrians on sidewalks and to vehicles at driveways or parking lots.
- Ride safely—officers may stop unsafe riding.
- Riders under 16 may only ride where the posted speed limit is 25 MPH or lower.
Violations may result in the scooter or e-bike being confiscated and returned only to a parent or guardian. To help with the transition, the Normandy Park Police Department will launch an education campaign with classes and potential training sessions for riders and their parents. We hope you’ll join us at the Town Hall for this important discussion!
Watch the Mayor’s City Council Wrap-Up Video
After every Council meeting, Mayor Zimmerman records a short video summarizing the actions taken. These videos are a quick and convenient way to stay up-to-date. You can find them on the City’s YouTube page, along with other helpful videos.
