The Normandy Park Community Club (aka “The Cove) will host its third annual Polar Bear Plunge on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, inviting residents to kick off the New Year with a cold water dip.

The family-friendly event is scheduled for 11 a.m. and is open to all ages.

Organizers said participants can choose their comfort level, from wading in up to their shoulders or doing a full plunge to dipping their toes or simply watching from shore.

The plunge will take place regardless of weather conditions, including rain, snow or wind, according to the Normandy Park Community Club.

Organizers offered several tips for first time participants, including wearing water shoes to protect feet and bringing a bathrobe, towel or blanket to warm up after exiting the water.

Participants are encouraged to park in the Cove Building parking lot. If that lot is full, additional parking will be available at the Normandy Park Swim Club.

Organizers advised allowing extra time for parking, especially for those who want to plunge with the main group at 11 a.m.
