On Monday night, Feb. 6, 2023, the Normandy Park City Council will hold a special meeting to fill a vacancy on the City Council.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at City Hall, and can also be viewed via Zoom at https://us06web.zoom.us/j/83436429241.
As we previously reported, Councilmember Michelle Sipes-Marvin resigned from Position #5 in January due to personal obligations.
The City Council will interview three applicants being considered for City Council position #5:
When a vacancy occurs on the Council more than six months before the next election, the City Council is responsible for appointing someone to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the term.
Each candidate review will have up to 15 minutes to be completed, and will include a 3-minute comment period by each detailing what they deem as important, with the remaining time spent as a question and answer period led by councilmembers.
The process currently used by Normandy Park is that interested residents submit an application expressing their interest, the City Council interviews the candidates, and then makes the final appointment.
“The City Council needs to be timely in its selection process because they have 90 days to fill vacancies,” the city said. “If this action is not completed in time, the City Council loses its authority, and King County Council will then have the authority to make the appointment.”
The meeting is open to the public.
“I encourage you to review the agenda to learn more about the applicants,” City Manager Amy Arrington said.
