Volunteers needed to plant native trees at Marine View Park

The City of Normandy Park is inviting volunteers to plant native trees and shrubs at Marine View Park on Friday, Oct. 2, as part of the city’s ongoing forest restoration efforts.

The Community Forestry Volunteer Program event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

No experience is needed, and volunteers can register in advance or sign up at the park that day, according to the city.

Volunteers will receive instruction on forest restoration, native plants, invasive species management and the role healthy forests play in protecting Normandy Park’s natural environment.

“Every tree planted today helps strengthen Normandy Park’s urban forest for the future,” the city said in its announcement.

The city said its trees and natural areas provide wildlife habitat, help manage stormwater and contribute to cleaner air and water. Restoration work supports those benefits by establishing native vegetation, removing invasive plants and reducing erosion.

The program is offered through a partnership between Restoration Analytics & Design LLC and King Conservation District.

Additional volunteer events are scheduled for Nov. 6 and Dec. 4, both from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to the city.
