City Manager’s Weekly Report
for week ending December 20, 2019

Community Development information on the city website.  The City website serves as staff’s link to the community. Relevant information for the community, including a list of all permits that are in for review or issued, is frequently updated and available on the City website (https://normandyparkwa.gov/services/community-development/active-projects/). In 2019, the Community Development Department has issued approximately 700 permits (includes all types, i.e. building, land use, plumbing, fill/grade, etc.). Additional information regarding notices for specific project and events are also posted on the homepage.

In December, both the Economic Development Committee and the Planning Commission have discussed the public engagement/participation plan for outreach regarding any work on the Comprehensive Plan. The Planning Commission made a motion, at the 12/19/19 meeting, to have the draft plan amended to add 1) a pop-up staff event at Manhattan Village; 2) a media platform for event and information communication; individual meetings with key business owners within the community; 3) a list of businesses identified as those that would be successful in Normandy Park; 4) an outreach plan for those businesses; and 5) a work session to occur prior to a public hearing on any proposed amendments.

The next public participation event, Coffee with City Staff, will occur on Friday, January 17th. Details on the location and exact time will be provided in the coming week.

On December 19th, there was a public roundtable discussion with staff and Planning Commissioners to discuss citizen’s ideas of how the City of Normandy Park should move forward with increased commercial zoning. There were eight (8) citizens present at the meeting and their participation was greatly appreciated by Community Development staff. It was great to hear citizens’ points of view in a discussion format. Thank you to all who took time out of daily routines to share thoughts and ideas. The event also coordinated a food and toy drive with the Burien/Normandy Park Fire Department. The drive collected 22 food items and 14 toys for families in need.
