Normandy Park Police Chief Dan Yourkoski this week highlighted exceptional acts of service by officers that go beyond traditional law enforcement duties, emphasizing the department’s dedication to community care.

Chief Yourkoski shared a voicemail from a grateful resident who commended Officer Garrett Gredell for his compassionate assistance. Early one morning, the caller, after being released from St. Anne’s Hospital, decided to return home alone, barefoot and in a wheelchair. Despite initially refusing help, Officer Gredell persisted and eventually assisted, pushing the man uphill for four blocks to his assisted living facility.

Another commendable incident occurred approximately two weeks ago. Officer Brian Norris responded to a scene where a person had passed away. A family member present was deeply moved by Norris’s compassion and support during the family’s grief. The family member later contacted a City Council member and the Police Department to express his gratitude, highlighting the significant impact of Norris’s actions during such a difficult time.

“These are just two examples of the outstanding work being done by the men and women of our Police Department every day,” said Chief Yourkoski. “Many of these acts go unnoticed by the public because our officers see them as part of their job. But to those they assist, these gestures mean so much more.”
