In response to recent presidential election results and anticipated federal policy changes, the Environmental Science Center (ESC) on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024 reaffirmed its commitment to community-focused initiatives in STEM education, environmental stewardship, and equity.

The local nonprofit, which engages thousands of students and community members each year, expressed its determination to continue advancing these science-related goals, regardless of shifting national priorities.

“As we move forward, ESC encourages everyone to get involved, not only with our programs but with other efforts that align with a sustainable and equitable future,” said Joanna Stodden, Executive Director of ESC. “These issues are too important to leave to chance. We have the ability and responsibility to act.”

ESC’s outreach programs provide hands-on learning opportunities designed to inspire environmental responsibility and increase STEM education access. With the potential for national policies to deprioritize climate action and science education, ESC has pledged to fill this critical gap. Through volunteerism, donations, and community engagement, ESC aims to ensure that environmental education remains accessible to all.

“We remain hopeful that with collective community support, we can build a sustainable future for generations to come,” said Naomie Chamberlain, Development Director. ESC is encouraging community members to participate in its programs, contribute financially, and raise awareness to sustain its mission of fostering environmental and STEM education.

ESC is inviting members of the community support them by volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word about their work.

“Additionally, we urge you to explore and support similar efforts within your own communities,” they added. “With your support, we will continue to expand our programs and positively impact the lives of students, families, and the community as a whole across the greater Seattle area.”

“Environmental Science Center Reaffirms Commitment to our Community

“To our friends and neighbors,

“Following the results of the presidential election and the projected policy priorities of this administration, the Environmental Science Center recognizes the need to heighten community involvement to continue advancing critical efforts in STEM education, equity, and climate stewardship. As an organization committed to empowering future generations, ESC reaches thousands of students and community members each year with programs designed to inspire environmental responsibility and hands-on learning.

“We will not waver in this effort.

“With potential shifts in national priorities that may deprioritize climate action and science education, ESC remains dedicated to filling this critical gap. ‘These issues are too important to leave to chance,’ said Joanna Stodden, Executive Director of ESC. ‘We have the ability to make a difference in our communities and this organization was founded with the idea that we see that difference through action.’

“As we move forward, ESC encourages community members to get involved. Not just with our programs but also with other initiatives close to their hearts. Together, we can ensure that the mission of environmental stewardship and equitable access to STEM learning thrives. We invite you to support ESC by volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word about our work. Additionally, we urge you to explore and support similar efforts within your own communities.

“At ESC, we believe in the power of community and remain hopeful that, with collective effort, we can build a more sustainable future for all. With your support, we will continue to expand our programs and positively impact the lives of students, families, and the community as a whole across the greater Seattle area.
