Salty’s at Redondo Beach – a historic Des Moines waterfront restaurant that has stood as a landmark in the community since 1928 – is officially on the market.

Salty’s Waterfront Seafood Grills is selling the property, located at 28201 Redondo Beach Drive S., for an asking price of $7.9 million.

This Salty’s closed its doors on March 15, 2020, citing the COVID-19 pandemic, and never reopened despite assurances to diners that the closure was temporary.

The Redondo location is one of three restaurants founded and owned by the Kingen family, with others located on Alki and in Portland.

The sales listing for this iconic waterfront property highlights a full-service restaurant featuring a large wraparound deck that seats 178 guests, offering stunning views of the Olympic Mountains, Vashon and Maury Island, and Puget Sound.

Inside, the dining area accommodates 138 diners, with seating for 45 at the bar. The main kitchen is equipped with a 20-foot Type 1 hood, ample refrigeration, and a spacious prep and service area.

Additionally, a secondary kitchen with a 6-foot Type 1 hood and a walk-up takeout window provides opportunities for a quick-serve concept, complemented by a small street-side patio.

The property includes two parcels across the street, totaling 29,390 square feet, currently used as parking and an office/bakery. These parcels are zoned Commercial Community (CC) with a height limit of 35 feet, offering redevelopment potential, including the option to restore a previously existing apartment. The sale also includes a signage easement at NW 270th St. and 15th Ave S., with no Department of Natural Resources lease obligations for the beach or tidelands.
