‘Tis the Season at Marina Mercantile: More Events, Unique Gifts, Holiday Tea, Special Cocktails, and More!
As they roll in to their fourth Holiday Season, Brenda Sutherland and the team at Marina Mercantile are pulling out all the stops this year.
“We’re fully into our new restaurant/cocktail/afternoon tea format now,” Sutherland said, “so we’ve created a whole series of events to find fun in each element of that – and curated this year’s gift selection around the same kind of fun.”
What kind of fun?
Well, there’s the Merc’s already famous Holiday Tea, featuring house-baked treats, savory and sweet, and their enormous selection of teas from Sumner company Apolis and elsewhere.
“We’ve also added a new Happy Hour Walk-In Tea option from 3-6 Wednesday through Saturday and 11-3 on Sunday,” Sutherland added. “It’s scaled down a bit, but has a couple options including ‘Tea and Tipples’ and a lower price – AND it doesn’t require reservations like our full-service Tea. It’s proving to be a big hit.”

And then there are the events.
Some are Tea focused – like “SwiftTea,” celebrating Taylor Swift’s birthday on December 13 from 12-3 p.m. with a tea-centric event.
Some feature SANTA – starting with December 7 Brunch with Santa (with 20% of proceeds to benefit the Des Moines Food Bank), then December 14’s Aecond Annual Pet Pictures with Santa (in cooperation with A Dog’s Dream) and Cookies and Cocoa party.
And some feature cocktails – starting December 5 with KrampusNacht – complete with a Krampus visit (!!!) and Krampus liqueur from Chuckanut Bay Distillery – and then on December 12 it’s Cookies and Cocktails, with cookie decorating, ugly sweaters, and more.
And the Merc’s selection of holiday gifts remains unique.
“We did shrink our retail to focus on food, cocktails, and tea,” Sutherland notes, “but I’ve put a lot this year in to making sure we still have special items for the holiday season, from stocking stuffers to luxury items.”

This includes a selection of luxury chocolate-filled Advent Calendars, carefully selected champagne and sparkling wine at every price point, coffee and tea and associated accessories, and the Merc’s famous tinned fish collection.
Of course, cocktails, dinner, and Sunday Brunch remain on the menu with their recently expanded later hours (Wednesday and Thursday until 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday ‘till 11 p.m.). Which is to say – whatever you’re looking for this holiday season, you can find it at Marina Mercantile!
