Skunk Works Robotics is inviting interested students to visit a team meeting at Highline College as it begins its 21st season, with opportunities ranging from building robots to photography, marketing and game strategy.
No experience is necessary, according to the team. An interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) is useful but not required.
The team needs students interested in programming, design, fabrication and electrical work to help build a competitive robot.
It also welcomes students who want to take photographs, record video, create marketing materials or develop competition strategies.
Each January, FIRST introduces a new game and playing field for FIRST Robotics Competition teams around the world. Teams then have about seven weeks to analyze the game, develop a strategy and begin working on their robots, according to Skunk Works.
Pacific Northwest teams compete in two district events in March. Teams that perform well can advance to district championships and potentially the world championships.
“If it sounds like fun to work on tight deadlines and learn from other students and mentors to solve problems for a game you’ve just learned the rules for and played with 150 lb. robots that can move as fast as 20ft/sec…contact us and come in for a visit,” organizers said.
