Normandy Park residents can earn recognition for their Halloween decorations through “Fright the Park,” a new Arts Commission program that will announce its first winners Saturday, Oct. 24, according to the city.

Arts Commission members will tour the community before Halloween to select homes with imaginative and festive displays. Selected homes will receive a special Fright the Park yard sign recognizing their decorating efforts.

“Whether your style is spooky, silly, mysterious, or downright frightening, Fright the Park lets you showcase your creativity and bring a little Halloween magic to the neighborhood,” the city said in its announcement.

Residents should have their displays ready one week before Halloween, the city said. Winners will be announced and recognized Oct. 24.

The program builds on “Light the Park,” Normandy Park’s winter tradition celebrating holiday displays throughout the community. The Arts Commission is introducing the Halloween version to encourage creativity and community spirit this fall.

The city encouraged residents to consider everything from ghosts, goblins and skeletons to pumpkins, with room for both frightening displays and scenes suitable for families.
