City Manager’s Report for week ending Mar. 4
Status of In-Person City Council Meetings
Some of you may be asking: With the mask mandate being lifted on March 11th, will the City of Normandy Park be bringing back in-person City Council meetings. Staff has researched this question, and what we have found is that the lifting the mask requirement does not automatically change the rules on meetings subject to the Open Public Meetings Act (OPMA).
Currently, cities are required to offer the ability to attend public meetings with a remote option. The Governor’s proclamation which created this rule is still in effect. And because of this, we are still required to provide remote meetings with an optional in-person component. Because of this, Normandy Park will continue to meet remotely.
We understand that in-person and remote meeting formats both have their benefits. To take full advantage of the positive aspects of these two types of meetings, the City Council has decided to transition to a hybrid public meeting format which will give residents the choice of participating in meetings either in-person or remotely. The purchase of audiovisual equipment needed for this change has been authorized, and it is going through the procurement process.
Remember that if you have a topic that you would like to discuss with the City Council, you are welcome to join the City Council Zoom meeting. The regular meetings start with public comment, and participants are given three minutes to share. If you cannot attend, please visit the city’s website and drop the City Council an email. Please note that emails sent to the City Council are not read at the meeting unless related to a specific public hearing.
Stay tuned for the hybrid public meetings.
