City Manager’s Report for week ending Mar. 18, 2022

Request for Volunteers!
Do you want to be involved in your local community and learn the workings of government? If so, the city has a volunteer opportunity for you. Please get in touch with City Clerk Brooks Wall at bwall@normandyparkwa.gov. She will fit your interests, strengths, and schedule to the needs of various city departments.  Some of our current volunteer opportunities include:

    • Arts Commission – The Arts Commission consists of seven appointed members for 3-year terms and meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm. The Art Commission represents the city’s interest in art matters and serves as a spokespersons group for art matters in the city. The Commission is responsible for encouraging and aiding programs for the cultural enrichment of Normandy Park citizens.
    • Planning Commission – The Planning Commission consists of seven appointed members for 6-year terms and meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The Planning Commission’s powers and duties are specified by Chapter 35A.63 of the Revised Code of Washington. These powers and duties are related to land use matters and long-range planning.
    • StART Committee – The SEA Stakeholder Advisory Round Table (StART) is the preeminent forum for information-sharing, discussing member cities’ concerns, and providing feedback to the Port of Seattle for issues related to the airport. The City of Normandy Park can designate three members, two residents and one city staff member, to serve on StART.

Make a difference today and volunteer!

Spring into the Parks
Join members of the Normandy Park Parks Commission on Saturday, March 26th, from 9:00 to noon for an ivy pull at Nist Park. We will work on removing ivy from trees and around the tree trunks. Bring your favorite pair of gloves and hand pruners if you have them. Otherwise, tools and gloves will be provided, as will coffee and snacks. Please bring a water bottle and dress for the weather. Hope to see you there!

City’s Permit Intake
We are now well into 2022 and construction season is fast approaching. The city has been hard at work processing permit applications for upcoming projects such as installing air conditioners, house remodels, and solar panel installations. Click this link to compare how this year’s permit flow compares to last year’s.

If you have any questions about these or other topics, please get in touch with me at aarrington@normandyparkwa.gov.

“Have a great week!”
