Arbor Day Poster Contest
As part of the upcoming Arbor Day festivities in Normandy Park, the city is hosting an all-age art poster contest. The contest’s theme is “Celebrate Trees” The theme is designed to provide wonder and inspire a greater appreciation of the beautiful assortment of trees that make up Normandy Park’s community forest. There will be five winning entries, one from each of the following categories: preschool, elementary school, middle school, high school, and adult. Entries may be used for outreach, education, and future tree-related programs and events. First-place winners for each category will receive a prize. And don’t forget to come to the Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, April 29th, to see all the entries.
Posters are due by April 17th. Entry forms can be found on the city’s website, or contact City Hall at 206.248.7603.
Spring Into Your Parks – A Planting event in April
The City of Normandy Park Parks Commission is celebrating spring by hosting a ‘Spring into Your Parks’ planting event on Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 9:00 – 12:00 pm at Marvista Park. Mark your calendar and come join the planting fun. We’ll install pollinator plants to help bees, birds, and butterflies. You can bring your favorite work gloves and tools, but we will also have tools to share!
King County Survey on Food and Yard Waste
Don’t forget – King County Solid Waste Division wants your input on how they can get more residents to compost food waste instead of putting it in the garbage. Food waste makes up more than 20% of what gets thrown away by King County residents. Keeping food out of our landfill is an important environmental action to reduce waste and support climate goals.
Take a survey to help shape the food waste reduction programming! Your input helps King County create policies and programming that will reduce waste and support climate goals. All answers are anonymous, and participants can enter a drawing to win fun prizes! The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and will be available until April 30.
