Normandy Park City Manager’s Report for week ending Sept. 22, 2023

A Message from Police Chief Dan Yourkoski

Many of you have seen the news of the robbery that occurred on Friday, September 15th, in Normandy Park. For those of you who have seen the video, it is sickening to watch the unprovoked attack on the store clerk. Thankfully, the Clerk was not seriously hurt. The Normandy Park Police Department is actively investigating this case, along with the assistance and cooperation of neighboring agencies. We appreciate all the public’s support, tips, and information that has already come in.

Thankfully, this is not a common occurrence in Normandy Park, which is partly why it is so shocking and getting so much attention. This is a very safe community, and we intend to restore that sense of safety by apprehending and holding accountable those responsible.

Communication in Normandy Park

Excellent communication with our residents is essential. We work for you and want to ensure you are informed about all the vital activities here in Normandy Park. In addition to our weekly email, we use the following methods to help with our communication efforts:

  • City Scene Magazine – A 32-page magazine published four times a year.
  • City website, including a robust event calendar.
  • Weekly Message from the City Manager.
  • Council Roundup Video on the City’s YouTube Channel.
  • Social Media Posts – Facebook and NextDoor.
  • Channel 21 (stay tuned for new programming soon).
  • Banners and Yard Signs for Events.
  • Informational kiosks at parks.
  • Event Flyers.
  • Surveys.
  • And more.

For a small organization, we do a lot. However, there might be a more effective way to communicate with the public. Do you have any suggestions for us to improve? Please email me and let us know what you think.

Important Events happening on Saturday, September 30th

Next Saturday, don’t forget the Parks Open House and Recycling Event.

To help us shape the future of our Parks system, the City is hosting a Parks Open House on Saturday, September 30th, at City Hall from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Refreshments will be offered. And don’t worry if you can’t make it on September 30th. We have another Open House planned for Wednesday, October 18th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

The Annual Recycling Event is also scheduled for September 30th. Start gathering your recyclable items, and come to the residential recycling event from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Washington State Criminal Justice Center at 19010 1st Avenue South.
