Normandy Park’s Music in the Park summer concert series has been amazing this year!

Neighbors, visitors and myself have been treated to some world class bands of immense variety for FREE at Marvista Park.

Rumba DB kicked off the series with some killer African beats, and a few weeks later Chikiri Japanese Taiko drummers captivated the entire audience with their traditional drumming and martial movements.

BAT Theater brought the cheeky “Fallen Angels”, a fun and flirty little show, and Roosevelt Road brought the tone home a couple weeks later with their bluegrass/Americana roots.

Cuban guitarist Kiki Valera took us on a musical journey throughout South America, while watching Nick Vigarino play guitar was like being in the presence of a level 18 guitar wizard. *Nick had a large cheering section of self-described ‘crusty old guys’ who came out from Ocean Shores for the day, which added to the fun atmosphere as well as the record attendance of nearly 300 people.

My family is so excited that there are two Sundays are left in the series; Ben Thomas’ Argentinian Tango this Sunday the 18th and a special Jazz Festival on the 25th starting at 230 with Jay Thomas RKO All-Star Jazz Ensemble and the finale at 5:00 with Marina Albero and her piano driven Latin Quinet.

Kudos and a huge thank you to the City of Normandy Park and the Art Commission for curating such an incredible lineup this summer. I’ve seen some of the best music performances in recent memory right here in my own ‘back yard’, with my neighbors, for free. That’s so awesome!
