The Krull family’s 7th Annual “Dinner or Pardon” turkey vote fundraiser has officially wrapped up, and local turkeys Larry and Norma have once again earned their pardon this Thanksgiving season.
Thanks to the community’s generosity, a total of 3,873 food items were donated to Transform Burien’s Food Bank, making a significant impact on local families in need.
A special shoutout went to Mrs. Eaton’s 2nd grade class at Gatewood Elementary School, which contributed more than 500 cans of food to help ensure the turkeys’ pardon. Organizers joked that many of the class’s donations were specifically aimed at sparing the birds.
“Larry and Norma are now back home, reunited with their chicken crew,” said event organizer Candace Krull. “Despite a bomb cyclone, power outages, and the general chaos, Norma even managed to lay nine eggs during the food drive! A few eggs had a rough journey, but we’ve tucked the six survivors into the incubator since Norma’s over her egg mom phase now that she is home.”
The beloved turkey vote, which has become a unique tradition in the Burien area, brings the community together every year to support Transform Burien while adding a bit of holiday fun.
