Here’s our recap of the Normandy Park City Council meeting held on Tuesday night, Feb. 13, 2024:
Oath Of Office For New Officer
Officer Malcolm Lee was sworn in as a Normandy Park Police Officer. His position was added to the budget early in 2023, and at the time there were two additional officer positions open. Recruiting has been successful, and as of Lee’s swearing in, all police officer positions are now filled.
Heritage Tree Recognition
Normandy Park now has six certified Heritage Trees. These trees are distinguished by their age, height, diameter, or species. This page on the city’s website includes a map marked with each tree’s location, as well as descriptions and photos of the six trees. There is also a link to the Heritage Tree application, if you have a distinctive or significant tree on your property that you would like to be recognized. The Heritage Tree program is meant to encourage public awareness and protection of unique trees as well as Normandy Park’s tree canopy in general. Normandy Park has 740 acres of tree canopy, which makes up 46% of the city’s total area. This is one of the highest in King County.
Public Comments
One commenter spoke during the comments segment, letting Council know that she likes the idea of having more town hall style meetings and discussions. She appreciates the ability to ask Council questions, something that is missing from regular council meetings.
Repair Events At King County Libraries
KCLS is hosting a series of Repair Events at various library locations. At these events, skilled volunteers will help community members fix items they bring in. According to King County’s webpage, the types of things people can bring in to be fixed “include household and personal items that are small enough to be carried in by one person, including certain electronics, small furniture and clothing/textiles.” The next event will be Mar, 19, 2024, from 3-6 p.m. at the Des Moines Library. The full schedule and description can be found here.
Coffee With A Cop
The next Coffee With A Cop event will include police from Normandy Park, Burien, and SeaTac. It will be held at the 1st Ave Starbucks from 10:15 to 11:45 on Tuesday, February 27th. See the details here.
